Waters Rankings 2022: Best enterprise data management (EDM) system provider—S&P Global Market Intelligence
Overview
S&P Global’s EDM platform is designed to allow financial services firms to achieve their business goals by breaking down data silos and creating a central source of consistent, validated data for use in downstream systems and decision-making. EDM is used for a wide range of use-cases, including regulatory compliance and managing ESG data, and is complemented by EDM Warehouse, the firm’s integrated investment management warehouse and reporting platform.
“Over the past 12 months, we have continued to execute against a series of exciting client, product and business goals. We have delivered a major new module, the Data Dictionary, as part of our shift to a SaaS-based model, and expanded the breadth of our coverage to include private markets use-cases.”
Jamie Penniman, senior vice president, head of commercial strategy, software solutions, S&P Global Market Intelligence
The Solution
EDM centralizes disparate data from different systems and sources across the enterprise. It links, matches, cleanses and applies rules and hierarchies to the data, creating a central master record of data, which can then be used with confidence.
Secret Sauce
Differentiators include the flexibility to support constant change, speed of implementation, low total cost of ownership, and the ability to support any type of entity data. Optional standardized templates provide an accelerated implementation with a pre-packaged user interface, workflows, rules and data models.
Recent Milestones
S&P Global launched its Data Dictionary to provide business users with greater visibility of data within their organization. It is the first deliverable in its migration to a software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based model.
It unveiled diversified EDM to support clients not only in the public markets, but also in private markets. In October 2021, Hamilton Lane went live on EDM to manage private asset data.
In response to increased focus on ESG, EDM now supports the Sustainable Finance Disclosures Regulation (SFDR).
Future Objectives
S&P Global’s key focus is on the delivery of the next phases of its SaaS platform. Following on from the Data Dictionary, it will be releasing more applications on the SaaS platform to empower business users.
The firm will also be focusing on user experience, addressing the needs of business users with a no-/low-code environment.
S&P Global will continue to grow its team to support its expanding client base and building out a dedicated user experience (UX) function.
