Peter Fischer Takes Top-Level Technology Job At Smith Barney

Smith Barney Shearson Inc. has hired itself a new technology chief, former Chemical Bank managing director Peter Fischer. Sources say that Fischer was brought on board to lay a steadying hand on a trading room system project that has already grown far beyond its original specifications.
Though Smith Barney officials, including Fischer, decline to comment on the details behind Fischer's hiring, other sources point to the fact that Smith Barney has been rolling out new systems at a fairly rapid
