CME, Reuters Plan After-Hours Trading Net; RDTS Unmasked, But Is Open Outcry Undone?

Less than five months after the Chicago Board of Trade became the first exchange to add an evening session, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange came back with its version of 24-hour trading, courtesy of Reuters Holdings PLC.

But one-upsmanship between the rival Chicago exchanges forced Reuters to reveal a bit more about its new transactional product for government securities and foreign exchange -- the Reuter Dealer Trading System -- than it might otherwise have liked.

By launching an after-hours
