SIA: European Y2K Efforts Held Back By Need To Convert To Single Currency

NEW YORK--European securities firms, their attention diverted by the impending conversion to the euro and erratic market behaviour in Asia/Pacific, are trailing behind the US in Year 2000 systems conversion, according to an official of the US-based Securities Industry Association (SIA).

"International companies have been distracted by the euro conversion and the state of the Asia markets, so they have gotten a little later start," says Don Kittell, executive vice president of the SIA. Kittell
