Bea Systems Racks Up 80 Per Cent Revenue Gain; Profits Triple

SAN JOSE, CALIF.--The e-commerce frenzy is paying off for Bea Systems, the middleware company that has branched out to provide web-based applications and commerce servers.

Bea says that revenue for the first quarter ended April 30 rose 80 per cent to $153.7 million compared to the same period one year ago. Net income before charges for acquisitions, premiums for converting bonds to equity, and taxes on employee options was up 217 per cent to $12 million from $3.8 million. When charges are
