Waters Rankings 2016: Best Market Risk Solution Provider — RiskVal Financial Solutions

Underpinning the firm’s RVFI and RVPortfolio offerings is the firm’s RiskVal Suite, an integrated trading system that offers users valuation and risk management functionality by integrating real-time data with high-speed analytics. RiskVal saw the opportunity to provide strong improvements to its products and meet the needs of an industry beset by increasing market volatility, according to its CEO, Jordan Hu. “We believe that the traditional market risk system is not sufficient to address the fast-moving market,” he says. “A true, real-time management solution is needed to stay ahead of market dynamics. This involves obtaining a reliable intra-day market data source as well as aggregating a live portfolio with a book and record system—I think RiskVal does a fairly good job in this area.”
According to the firm, its market risk product addresses that need as clients demand intra-day real-time portfolio management functionality. Hu says clients also want flexible, on-the-fly scenario risk support with the ability to customize rate, credit and volume shocks so that they can accurately project risk. The RVFI system, a multi-currency and multi-strategy trading system that integrates front-, middle-, and back-office functions into a software-as-a-service (SaaS)-delivered platform, leverages real-time valuation capabilities that enable trading desks and risk managers to monitor risk and P&L on an intra-day basis. The platform generates bucket risk, volatility surface risk and credit bucket risk views from book to individual trading strategy levels as well as calculating a portfolio’s value-at-risk, allowing risk managers to navigate and decompose risk.
Another RVFI feature that sets it apart from its competitors is its efficiency, according to Hu. The platform generates market data, which is then applied to a portfolio when risk managers specify customized risk scenarios. Finally, Hu sees the firm’s customer service as another differentiator. “We don’t believe in help desk ticketing systems—that’s a 90s solution. We train our support staff to be knowledgeable enough so that 99 percent of issues are solved on the spot,” Hu says. “We have a solid operational team to ensure the stability and reliability of our service level, all of which are important to our clients.”
