Best Counterparty Risk Management: SunGard

For the second straight year, SunGard has won the best counterparty risk management provider award in the Waters Rankings. This category was a new addition to last year’s rankings, reflecting the mounting concern by all types of trading organizations for the general wellbeing and robustness of their counterparties, an issue highlighted by the failure of investment banks Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers. SunGard should be well pleased, although not necessarily surprised, with the results of this year’s readers’ poll, given that SunGard Adaptiv, the firm’s primary counterparty risk management tool, has enjoyed significant traction across the financial services vertical in its various guises—Adaptiv 360, Adaptiv Analytics, Adaptiv Collateral, Adaptiv Credit Risk, and Adaptiv Operations—since its unveiling in early 2004. But as you’d expect with a technology company the size of SunGard, it has more than one offering supporting counterparty risk management. A case in point is its SunGard AvantGard treasury platform, the most recently unveiled version of which features enhanced valuations and accounting functionality, two variables that play a significant role in managing counterparty risk.

1 SunGard (21.1%)
2 Algorithmics (17.6%)
3 RiskVal (16.9%)
