For investment strategy incubator Research Affiliates, data matters. The small Newport Beach, Calif.-based firm creates index-based investment algorithms, which it then licenses to a number of partners around the globe, like Nomura, FTSE and Charles Schwab, which then transform them into investment strategies for their clients.
Unlike short-lived arbitrage algorithms, Research Affiliates’ passive algorithms tend to last much longer and involve portfolios containing up to 3,000 names.
