Large institutions need to be smart in their approach to tech spend, Fidessa says.

The paper, Walk the Line, says that the confluence of tough market conditions with the rising costs of meeting client demand mean that only essential technology crucial to the generation of alpha and competitive advantage should be solely in-house.

However, organizations of the size tackled in the paper, referred to as scale players, should also be flexible in technology evolution. Intellectual property in the top bracket should not always be considered sacrosanct, it says, as new developments
