One year ago, Paul Hawtin set up a hedge fund with the intention of harnessing the data generated through psychological analysis of information shared on social media to predict the rise and fall of the stock market.
Pinning his hopes on the calculations of Indiana University researchers, who claimed to be able to use social media to predict the movements of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) with 87.6 percent accuracy, Hawtin founded Derwent Capital Markets’ Absolute Return fund.
