Not surprisingly, the STA articulated that the U.S. cash equities markets operated as they should have during the recent economic crisis and showed no signs of "significant deficiencies." However, the association did call for the establishment of a National Market Surveillance System that would link and integrate the existing surveillance systems of individual exchanges and trading venues.
