Cray Research Inc. To Unveil Low-Cost Y-MP Supercomputer

Cray Research Inc. is set to launch a low-cost, air-cooled version of its Y-MP range, sources say. An announcement is expected early next year.
The computer, the sources say, is particularly suitable for securities firms. Firms have been reluctant to buy Cray Research computers, partly because of their cost. Instead, several firms use bureau services to access Cray machines to perform high-speed processing functions.
