Early testing of the FIX Adapted for Streaming Data (FAST) protocol has shown promising results in reducing the bandwidth required to transmit market data.
Last September, the FIX Protocol Ltd. Market Data Optimization Work Group completed its proof-of-concept phase and demonstrated FAST's ability to compress market data messages to less than a fifth of their original size. These encouraging results reportedly prompted Archipelago, now part of NYSE Group, to go live with a FAST
