ASP technologies have been crucial to the proliferation of start-ups racing to get up and running with systems to support their trading activities. Typically, though, managers have tended to switch from hosted to installed applications once they reach a critical mass in terms of assets under management. Whether this paradigm will change depends on the ability of third-party vendors to accommodate more scalability, customisation, and functionality in their products. By Stewart Eisenhart
