The online survey drew more than 300 responses from readers all over the world, including 18 CTOs and CIOs, as well as market data managers, heads of operations, risk managers, front-office trading systems managers and legal counsels, among others. Six respondents say they have more than 500 staff members reporting to them, while nearly 70 percent, or 229 respondents, say they have from zero to 10 reports.

About 40 percent of the respondents work at investment banks; around 22 percent work at buy
