As soon as it became clear that the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid) would allow the formation of MTFs, futures exchanges should have realized that they would be under siege like their sibling equities exchanges.

Project Rainbow is just the first such initiative to go toe-to-toe with the global futures markets and TradeWeb, but there are at least two or three others waiting in the wings to make their announcements later this year.
