UBS to Launch Blockchain Lab

London-based technology project will explore ledger technology applications.

The Swiss bank and its group chief information officer, Oliver Bussmann, are actively looking at ways the ledger can potentially tackle operational problems such as clearing and settlement, in addition to its traditional role underlying digital currencies' infrastructure.

The move comes shortly after the UK government announced a £10 million allocation for research in digital currency in the country.
