Edwin Marcial, former CTO at ICE

In a letter posted on his LinkedIn page (which also features a truly excellent video), he looked back wistfully on his career at ICE, saying, "I'll remember the trust and confidence [ICE CEO] Jeff Sprecher put in me all these years. His vision and leadership has pushed us all beyond our limits to ends we never thought we could achieve.

"At ICE we have accomplished so much, but what I'm most proud of is the team we have built here," the letter continues. "There isn't a more talented, dedicated, and passionate group of people at a company anywhere. From Atlanta to New York, Chicago, Houston, London, and San Mateo I have had the pleasure of working with the most brilliant, remarkable, and wonderful people with whom anyone could ever hope to work."

A spokesperson for ICE said that the exchange could not comment on personnel or who may be taking over for Marcial.

For the October 2013 issue of Waters, soon after ICE's acquisition of the New York Stock Exchange, Marcial sat down with Jake Thomases to talk about the exchange's meteoric rise.
