Brazilian Regulator Weighs Breaking BM&FBovespa Monopoly

US exchanges are eager to set up electronic trading platforms in the growing Brazilian markets but the country’s incumbent exchange has so far declined to open up its clearinghouse to competitors, leaving would-be exchange operators to take up the matter with the regulators.

Brazil’s securities markets regulator, Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM), made no determinations or promises at a hearing last Friday in São Paulo on the possibility of introducing exchange competition to the country
