“Originally, we built Market Simulator (MARS) as an internal tool for testing order execution,” says Redline chief executive Mark Skalabrin. “The challenge with execution is that exchanges do things in different ways… so it’s difficult to replicate what happens in real life in a structured, repeatable way. Exchanges might send messages in the wrong order, or not send them at all. So we built a model of exchanges to test our order gateway.”
