India bank official elected to role at Basel-based organization supervising capital adequacy compliance

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS), which includes the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision that developed the Basel III capital adequacy rules, has elected India national bank official Raghuram Rajan as its vice chairman.

Rajan, governor of the Reserve Bank of India, will serve a three-year term beginning today, November 10. He joined the BIS board in 2013.
