Last month I predicted that we would hear more about plans to replace the international business entity identifier (IBEI) in 2008. And it's already started. Every time I have been on the phone to a vendor this month I have quietly been thinking: "Please don't tell me you're creating an entity identification scheme too." The fact is that there has been a lot of interest in jumping into this space, and it is not even typically considered to present a good commercial opportunity.
