FINRA Begins Migration of Market Surveillance Apps to Amazon Cloud, Adopts Big Data Tech

FINRA already uses advanced data warehouses and appliances developed for Big Data storage from partners such as Apache Software Foundation, HortonWorks, Cloudera and Hadoop installation MapR to process over 30 billion transactions and monitor nearly six billion shares traded every day in the US listed equities markets to detect market abuse, but has now “exhausted those in terms of their scale and capacity,” said FINRA chief information officer Steve Randich at the North American Financial

FCA declines to directly regulate market data prices

A year-long investigation by the UK regulator to determine whether competition is hindered in the wholesale data markets has concluded with its decision not to directly regulate much-maligned data pricing and licensing structures.
