'LSE-Nasdaq' to Cull Platforms

LONDON—Shareholders of the London Stock Exchange (LSE) are flirting with the U.S.-based Nasdaq Stock Market to convince the electronic exchange to launch a new bid for the London securities marketplace.

If this leads to a merger between Nasdaq and the LSE, there would be a beneficial streamlining of transaction platforms, according to industry analysts.

Among the shareholders pushing for a new bid are hedge funds, which own approximately 20 percent of the LSE. Nasdaq owns 25.1 percent.
