Market 2000 Study Boosts Off-Exchange Trading Systems, But Suggests Some Rethinking

The Market 2000 study of the North American equity market released recently by the Securities and Exchange Commission registered a strong vote of confidence for proprietary equity trading systems--but also proposed some changes to ensure their continued fairness.

Specifically, the study recommended that regulators mandate reporting and record-keeping for off-exchange trading activities--a rule that could significantly impact money managers' use of such services as those provided by Reuters'
