Maybe if traders could implicitly know what each algorithm does, having a full menu shoved in their face during a broker meeting might be more palatable. Each algo comes with a description, of course, often in bullet-point form on a nicely laminated sheet. That's not enough to understand how they will perform in the real world, say two buy-siders who spoke at TradeTech West in San Francisco. As a consequence, the menu tends to be overlong and overwhelming.
