Boston-headquartered Eagle embarked on its data management journey in 1996 and supports the data operations for its owner, BNY Mellon. With this background, Eagle has long been at the forefront of the shift to alternative operating models. This year’s success comes by way of the firm’s work with UK-based pension scheme RPMI Railpen (Railpen), which needed a new data management system to insource some of its data and increase its own external reporting output.

A transformation project at Railpen resulted in the company selecting Eagle for its data management system and its ability to provide a fully managed service to offer a cost-efficient and data-centric solution to improve consistency and transparency. The pension provider implemented Eagle’s EDM solution as the central platform in its daily operation and could quickly reap the benefits of a simplified architecture with enterprise data capabilities, as well as operational improvements, including an Investment Book of Records, which feeds the portfolio management and risk solutions.

With unique requirements, firms like Railpen are not looking for a cookie-cutter solution, and part of Eagle’s success comes from its flexible approach to helping asset management firms solve the data dilemma. “Back in 2000 we would be selling software,” says Dan Cavanaugh, head of BNY Mellon program services. Eagle was early to move to offering software-as-a-service, and the next step was providing customers with a managed service model: “We can provide just a technology or full outsourcing—but then we also have lots of different points of value in between.”

It was Eagle’s long-standing success in providing these services that earned the vendor the win. Judges praised Eagle for a “tried and trusted” data management offering with “excellent comprehensive capabilities across all data asset classes within the financial services vertical”. In today’s market, it is this robust data management technology, coupled with tailored offerings to meet unique client requirements that appears to be the winning formula in EDM.
